The Plan for Barbuda 2024.

The Plan for Barbuda is fluid, organic and ever changing. However the roots remain as is, Communal ownership remains our by right. Our collective strength and survival dictate. The land and the People are one.  The people, land and culture are inextricably intertwined.

This was confirmed in the conversations recorded immediately post World War ii and a more formal indication of the Master Plan was formalized in Barbuda Local Government Act (1976). As we approached a possible independence this act and the creation of the Barbuda Council led towards a  ‘A Road Map to Barbudan independence which is now Secession’. This was confirmed in the votes prior to 1981 independence for Antigua of which a two thirds majority voted for Barbuda to go it alone. It is disingenuous to say Barbudans did not have a plan. The Plan was clear in its ethos that Barbuda has a different vision and way it wishes to navigate the world in which we exist. The feelings at the time were best summed up by the late, great Sir Giles Raddice as below.

The right to self-determination under the umbrella of ‘Barbuda for Barbudans’ and our fundamental rights as enshrined in the constitution under the Barbuda Local Government ACT 1976

For it is self-evident that Barbuda people have a claim to self-determination as long as this act stands, without it we will be a lost people, consumed by other. As Barbudans, in all sincerity, we believe that Democracy in self-determination is a Human Right for us ever since emancipation and we will not fall back to dictatorship, tyranny or enslavement.

This indelible right is best encapsulated in the Barbuda Flag of Self Determination which can be view alongside the Barbuda Anthem and the Oath of Barbuda. These important pieces of our culture are available on PlanBarbuda.Org.

Moving forward we must Immediately Work out a way the people can converse and work with the Barbuda Council so that the people feel their concerns are heard and the Plan for Barbuda is fully expressed and we are on the same page.
